1. Introduction

Welcome to [Insert Your App Name] ("the App"). We are committed to protecting the privacy of our users. This Privacy Policy explains how the App handles information when you download, install, and use our QR Code & Barcode Scanner, Generator, and Utility application on your mobile device.

By downloading, installing, or using the App, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with the terms described here, please do not use the App.

This Privacy Policy has been prepared in accordance with the requirements of the Google Play Console Developer Program Policies, including sections on User Data, Permissions, and Advertising ID.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Data We Do NOT Collect

We want to be clear and upfront: the App does not collect, transmit, or store any personally identifiable information (PII) on external or remote servers. We do not require you to create an account, and we do not ask for your name, email address, phone number, or physical address to use the core scanning and generating features of the App.

2.2 Locally Stored Data (On-Device Only)

To provide core functionality, the App uses Hive, a lightweight and secure local database, to store the following information directly on your device:

  • Scan History: The content of QR codes and barcodes you scan (e.g., text, URL, or data value), the timestamp of the scan, and whether you have marked an item as a favorite.
  • Generated Codes (if applicable): Data related to QR codes you create using the Generator feature, for the purpose of allowing you to view or re-download them from your history.

Important: This data never leaves your device. It is not uploaded to any cloud server, database, or third party operated by us. It exists solely in the App's local storage on your phone or tablet and is used only to display your scan history back to you within the App.

You can clear this locally stored data at any time by:

  • Using the in-app "Clear History" or "Delete" function (if available within the App), or
  • Clearing the App's storage/cache through your device's system Settings, or
  • Uninstalling the App, which permanently removes all locally stored Hive data from your device.

2.3 Device Permissions

The App requests the following device permissions strictly to enable its core features:

Permission Purpose
Camera Used exclusively to scan QR codes and barcodes in real time through your device's camera viewfinder. The App does not record, save, or transmit camera footage or images unless you explicitly choose to save a generated QR code image to your gallery.
Photos / Gallery (Storage) Accessed only when you voluntarily choose to (a) select an existing image from your gallery to scan a QR/barcode contained in it, or (b) save/download a generated QR code image to your device's gallery. The App does not browse, scan, or access your gallery in the background.
Notifications Used to inform you locally on your device when a QR code you generated has been successfully saved/downloaded (e.g., "QR Code Downloaded"). These are local, on-device notifications only and are not used for marketing or sent from a remote server.

You may grant or revoke any of these permissions at any time through your device's Settings menu. Please note that disabling certain permissions (such as Camera) may limit or disable core functionality of the App.

3. Advertising and Third-Party Services

To keep the App free to use, we display advertisements provided by Google AdMob, a mobile advertising service provided by Google LLC.

3.1 Ad Formats Used

The App displays the following ad formats:

  • Banner Ads — small ads displayed at the top or bottom of certain screens.
  • Interstitial Ads — full-screen ads shown at natural transition points within the App (e.g., after generating or scanning a code).
  • Native Ads — ads styled to match the App's visual design, displayed within content areas.

3.2 Data Collected by AdMob

Google AdMob and its advertising partners may automatically collect and process certain information to serve relevant ads and measure ad performance, including but not limited to:

  • Advertising Identifier (Google Advertising ID / AAID)
  • Device information (device model, operating system version, language, screen resolution)
  • IP address and approximate (coarse) location derived from it
  • App usage data and interaction with ads (e.g., ad impressions, clicks)
  • Network and connection information

This data collection and processing is performed by Google, not directly by us, and is governed by Google's Privacy Policy and Google's Advertising Policies:

3.3 Personalized vs. Non-Personalized Ads

Depending on your region, consent settings, and device configuration, the App may show you either personalized ads (based on your interests and app activity) or non-personalized ads (based on limited, non-identifying context). Where required by applicable law (such as GDPR in the EEA/UK or similar regulations), a consent mechanism (e.g., a consent management platform / Google User Messaging Platform, UMP) is presented to obtain your consent before showing personalized ads.

3.4 Ad Personalization Controls

You can manage or opt out of personalized advertising through:

  • Android Settings: Settings → Google → Ads → "Opt out of Ads Personalization" or "Reset advertising ID."
  • Google Ads Settings (web): https://adssettings.google.com
  • In-app consent tool (if presented to you by the App upon first launch), where you can review and change your ad consent choices at any time.

Please note that opting out of personalized ads does not stop ads from being shown — you will still see ads, but they may be less relevant to your interests.

4. Other Third-Party Services and Libraries

The App is built using the Flutter framework and relies on a number of standard, widely-used open-source and commercial software libraries to function properly, including but not limited to:

  • Flutter (Google's UI toolkit) and the Riverpod state-management library — used to build and run the App's interface and internal logic. These are development frameworks and do not independently collect or transmit personal data.
  • Hive — a local, on-device NoSQL database used to store scan history as described in Section 2.2. Hive does not connect to the internet or transmit data externally.
  • Google Mobile Ads SDK (AdMob) — used to request and display Banner, Interstitial, and Native ads as described in Section 3.
  • Camera / QR & Barcode Scanning libraries (e.g., mobile scanner components) — used to access the device camera and decode QR/barcode data locally on the device.
  • Image Picker — used to allow you to select images from your gallery for scanning, or to save generated QR codes.
  • Local Notifications — used to display on-device notifications, such as confirming a successful QR code download.

These libraries operate locally within the App or, in the case of the Google Mobile Ads SDK, communicate with Google's advertising servers as described in Section 3. We do not operate our own external servers to collect or store your personal data.

5. Data Security

We take reasonable and appropriate technical measures to protect the data stored locally on your device via Hive from unauthorized access, alteration, or disclosure. Because your scan history and app data are stored only on your local device and are not transmitted to or stored on any external server controlled by us, the primary security of this data depends on the security of your own device (e.g., use of screen lock, device encryption, and keeping your operating system updated).

We do not guarantee the absolute security of any data, as no method of electronic storage is 100% secure. However, since we do not collect or store your data remotely, the risk associated with a centralized data breach on our end does not apply to your locally stored App data.

6. Children's Privacy

The App is not directed at, and is not intended for use by, children under the age of 13 (or the applicable minimum age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children.

Because the App does not collect personal data on external servers and only stores scan-related data locally on-device, we do not knowingly gather or process personal information from children through the App's core features. However, please note that the Google AdMob SDK integrated into the App may collect limited device and advertising data as described in Section 3, and Google's services are configured, where applicable, to serve only non-personalized/child-appropriate ads on apps or ad units designated as directed at children, in compliance with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and Google Play's Families Policy, where relevant.

If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with information in a manner inconsistent with this Policy, please contact us at the email address listed in Section 10, and we will take appropriate steps to address the concern.

7. Your Rights and Choices

Because we do not collect or store your personal data on any remote server, most traditional "data subject rights" (such as requesting a copy of server-held data) are not applicable, as there is no centralized data of yours for us to access, export, or delete on your behalf. However, you retain full control over your locally stored App data at all times:

  • Right to Access: You can view your entire scan history directly within the App at any time.
  • Right to Delete: You can delete individual scan history entries, clear all history via the in-app option (if available), clear the App's storage through your device Settings, or uninstall the App to permanently remove all locally stored data.
  • Right to Opt Out of Personalized Ads: As described in Section 3.4, you can manage your advertising ID and ad personalization preferences through your device settings or Google's Ad Settings page.
  • Right to Revoke Permissions: You can revoke Camera, Gallery, or Notification permissions at any time through your device's app permission settings.

If you are located in a jurisdiction with specific data protection laws (such as the EEA/UK under GDPR, or California under the CCPA/CPRA), and you have questions about how third-party services like Google AdMob process your data, we encourage you to review Google's privacy resources linked in Section 3.2, or contact us using the details in Section 10 with any specific questions.

8. Data Retention

  • Locally Stored Data (Scan History): Retained on your device indefinitely until you manually delete it, clear app storage, or uninstall the App.
  • Advertising Data: Retained and processed by Google/AdMob in accordance with Google's own data retention policies, which are outside of our direct control. Please refer to Google's Privacy Policy for details.

We do not retain any personal data on our own servers, as none is collected or transmitted to us.

9. International Users

The App may be used by individuals located in various countries around the world. While your App data (scan history) remains locally on your device regardless of your location, our third-party advertising partner (Google AdMob) may process advertising-related data on servers located in different countries, including the United States, in accordance with their own privacy policies and applicable international data transfer safeguards.

10. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, App features, legal requirements, or for other operational reasons. Any changes will be posted on this page with a revised "Effective Date" at the top. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically. Your continued use of the App after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the revised Privacy Policy.
